Fun FalseBay

Posted on August 10th, 2012 in Surf

It has been a bit of a let down this winter in terms of Swell in “The Bay”.
The magic combination of South Swell coupled with light to moderate North West winds has been few and far between.
When these elements have lined up, it has usually come with bad light which is not great for decent image, making.

South Swell meets Kalk Bay reef

I am a little over FalseBay and Kalk Bay Reef in particular.
This must be the most hyped up and over shot break in the country.
It is a wave that makes for a good photo when it is working, no matter what skill level the photographer possesses and hence it’s a “dog show” with photographers these days.

Deen Hill: standard, boring , done to death shot of Kalk Bay

I have also been giving “The Reef’s” little sister, Dangers, a bit of attention of late.
This is not the best wave in the world and certainly not the most photogenic!

Dangers Reef: Not such a kak wave

Dangers is an average left hand reef break but the fun really starts when the beach break turns on.
Here one can score some fun barrels or epic launch sections.
