Fishy Long Beach

Finally the Wind here in Cape Town took a much-needed break and a fun summer swell pulled in so I decided to head down to Kommetjie to check it out.

The waves were pretty small in the morning but we knew by the high tide things would be on. To kill some time we checked out a few spots in the area before finally settling on good old Long Beach.
Seeing as it was a nice summers day, I decided to shoot from the water with a fisheye.

Tarryn Chudleigh

Lucky for me the water was not too cold and the swim out was non eventful. The Surfers I swam out with, Tarryn Chudleigh and Tanika Hoffman were keen to try shoot some rights, as that was the less crowded option. Both surfers are Goofy-Foots (backhand on rights) and got a few average waves.
I spent most of my time trying to swim into position and dodging the bigger sets so was quite a challenge getting great photos. The other major “problem” I had in the water, was the large number of unskilled surfers polluting the lineup.

Couple decent waves out there at Lonbeach

It was a good thing I had a few decent surfers join us in the form of Rigard Smit, Benji Brand and Matt Bromley as they gave me more shooting opportunities.
At the end of the session I came away with a few rad shots.
The couple hours I was in the water was a great way to spend a rad summers day. This was also the first time I have shot surfing since my Magic East Coast surf trip a month ago so was good to get re acquainted with a DSLR
