Im losing interest in Kalk Bay reef.

I am not too sure why.

Maybe it is because it is the most over shot surf spot down here with tons of “photographers” recording the action whenever it breaks.

Maybe it is because I grew up in the area and have been shooting the wave for many years, possible longer than anyone else.

Maybe it’s just become too boring? It’s a barreling wave that breaks over a shallow reef and not much actually changes.

Kalk Bay Reef

Whatever my lack of enthusiasm is of late, I headed down to the reef last week to have a look and attempt to try something different. The Swell was there but was inconsistent and lacking a little something but the odd good one was coming through.

What I had in mind was to shoot long lens from the water.

When I finally decided to swim the waves were pretty average and the tide was a little high. To make matters worse, as I got to the waters edge, a massive rainstorm erupted!
