Girls Only

Summer in Cape Town continues!
So when a small swell appeared on the charts after a week of crappy wind slop, it was time to make a mission.

For this particular mission I decided to do things a bit different.
I decided a Girls only mission was the way to go.

Tarryn Chudleigh and Lisa Mace had both been keen to do a little out-of-town mission for a little while so these two young ladies where an obvious choice. Tanika Hoffman joined us at the last minute so I had a decent group to work with.

All 3 girls have represented South Africa in surfing and all 3 have held a national surfing title from SA university champ to SA junior champ.
I have also had published work with all the girls in the past and have worked with them for more than 6 years now.

As soon as we were on our way to meet Tanika , Lisa and Tarryn decided they needed to do a little food shopping!
The only good thing about this detour taking so long was that Tanika caught up with us and we could restart the mission all together.

The drive up was pretty fun, thanks to Lisa’s entertaining stories and soon we were off the National Road heading towards the beach, with little idea of what to expect.

It was low tide and the swell was a little bigger than expected. The swell was also a little inconsistent with the bigger sets closing out on the outside. However there was a strong semi cross-shore wind blowing that was to make life a little difficult.

Due to the very low tide and some angry closeouts we decided on a peak further down the beach.
With the warm water and a fun left, the girls were Amped!

Tarryn started things off by finding a good little barrel that closed on her but soon followed up with a sick little tube ride to front side hack.
Lisa on her backhand found a few walls to hack into. While Tanika, found a couple of running lefts, which she worked all the way to the beach.

After the surf we shot some photo’s on the beach but we bailed soon after as the wind was picking up and Lisa had the bright idea to go get some food from the mall! Which was about 30minutes away!

After killing some time and almost getting lost, we headed back in the hope that the wind had backed off.
It had not
We decided to give it a go anyway. Lisa missed timed her paddle and was smashed by a couple of large sets. She made it out to the back but the wind was making it tough to surf and the session ended soon after.

The Mission back to Cape Town was nice and quiet and an awesome day trip came to an end.

20 images from the girls only mission!
